Field trip (Making authentic Japanese sweets and strolling through the Higashiyama District)

The Maple Program students went on their field trip as part of the Maple Directed Research & Reading (MDR) course on May 28, 2024. On this field trip, they got to experience making authentic sweets as well as strolling through the Higashiyama District. The students were able to see the various forms of architecture like the Sanjusangendo Buddhist temple as they walked through the Higashiyama District, thus getting a first-hand look of the Japanese culture. Afterwards, they made two different kinds of Japanese sweets ideal for the season and enjoyed eating what they had created with tea. Although the students walked through Higashiyama in the heavy rain, they saw various buildings such as Sanjusangendo Temple and learned about Japanese culture.
