I am currently writing my doctoral thesis on Japanese children’s literature, a topic I discovered as a Maple Program student. After taking my first steps in the academic world, attending a research course of the Maple Program, I finished a bachelor’s thesis and a master’s thesis, I presented at international symposia, my work was published in research journals, and finally I will complete a doctoral thesis. Osaka University helped me grow further than I could have imagined.

Five years ago, as a Maple Program student, I took a class called Independent Study, so I could do research on Ainu. Being the shy girl I was, doing a Ph.D. at Osaka University was something I could only dream of at the time. The teachers at Osaka University encourage individuality, maximize the students’ potential, and strive to teach classes students can truly enjoy.

Two years ago, I studied abroad as a Maple Program student. My major in China was Japanese, and I came to Japan as a Maple Program student to understand more about Japanese culture. By taking many classes on culture and going on field trips, I saw Japanese culture in a new light. Right now , I am a graduate student, and I am doing research on yōkai (ghost) culture under the guidance of one of my professers from when I attended the Maple Program.
