Study tour in autumn/winter term

On November 21-22, 2023, CJLC held a study tour and 50 Maple Program students participated. On the first day of the trip, the students enjoyed eating and shopping at Kurokabe Square in Shiga Prefecture, followed by a visit to Eiheiji Temple in Fukui Prefecture, where they spent their time visiting the temple grounds at the sunset. After the sightseeing, they stayed at a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan) for the night and were able to interact with students from many different countries. On the second day, the students first visited Kenrokuen Garden in Ishikawa Prefecture and then Hikone Castle in Shiga Prefecture to see the beautiful scenery and architecture of Japan.

In addition, the students were introduced to Japanese culture, such as Japanese style rooms, cuisine, hot springs, and bathrobes (yukata) at the ryokan where they stayed. The two-day trip was a truly enriching experience for the students, who had the opportunity to better understand aspects of the Japanese culture that cannot be experienced in the classroom.

<Students’ Comments>

I have really enjoyed this trip and managed to get to know classmates from other programs as well. Moreover, the places we visited highlighted important aspects of the Japanese culture and have been really diverse. I also believe that the experience of 和食 and 温泉 helped deepen everyone’s understanding  of the Japanese culture and have been memorable for everyone. The transportation throughout the trip was really comfortable and the pamphlets were really helpful during the visits.
